BC Transit provides transit service in over 81 transit systems across the province in cities like Nanaimo, Kelowna and Prince George, to towns like 100 Mile House, Elk Valley and Kitimat.
In
Victoria, service is extended to Greater Victoria, the Westshore Communities, Sidney and Sooke. BC Transit’s Victoria Regional Transit System has a fleet of 276 buses, currently operates 52 active bus routes and has 2 service centres located in downtown Victoria and Langford. Transit service operates seven days a week, 365 days a year.
The corporation's mandate, as set out in the BC Transit Act, is: "to plan, acquire, construct or cause to be constructed public passenger transportation systems and rail systems that support regional growth strategies, official community plans, and the economic development of transit service areas", [and] "to provide for the maintenance and operation of those systems".
