Conventional

Duties

  • Transports customers throughout the Capital Regional District, in accordance with BC Transit policies, observing all traffic laws and safety rules and adhering to time schedules.
  • Courteously and professionally interacts with customers, including answering inquiries en route, making general announcements of assistance to customers, issuing transfers, collecting correct fares and ensuring valid passes are presented.
  • Completes a variety of vehicle and incident reports as required. Carries out emergency/accident procedures when required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum age 19 years.
  • Valid BC Drivers License, Class 5 or higher, with demonstrated driving record indicating safe and responsible vehicle operation over the past 5 years.
  • Capable, after training, of holding a Class 2 driver's licence with airbrake endorsement.
  • Significant skills dealing effectively with the public, including demonstrated skills in conflict resolution, problem solving, and sound decision-making in positions providing customer service.
  • No criminal convictions or pending charges relating directly to the Transit Operator position.
  • Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to communicate effectively with the traveling public and to report on incidents involving safety and/or service.
  • Able to pass a comprehensive medical examination relating to Motor Vehicle Act requirement for a class 2 driver's licence.
  • Willing to work shifts, including split shifts, weekends, and statutory holidays (transit service operates 7 days per week, 21 hours per day).
  • A good knowledge of the Greater Victoria area is an asset.

Additional Information

  • This position requires working shifts, including split shifts, as well as weekends and statutory holidays.
  • Selected applicants will be required to participate in a comprehensive recruitment process which consists of interviews, trainability session, medical examination as required for licensing and criminal record check.

  • First 18 weeks $18.30
  • 19-52 weeks $20.13
  • Year two $22.22
  • Year three $23.53
  • Thereafter $26.14
