Duties

  • General body work, including maintenance and collision repair work on buses and other transit vehicles: metal bumping, filling, sanding, riveting, panel replacement, frame straightening, floor repairs, glass replacements, and all required body work.  

Qualifications

  • BCTQ in Automotive Collision Repair. 
  • Must have served an apprenticeship as a collision repair technician.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who have some experience in bus repair and in glass replacement and who hold an Automotive Painting Certificate.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s licence, Class 3 or higher, with airbrake endorsement and demonstrated safe driving record.

SERVICE

Duties

  • Will perform any duties incidental to the servicing of buses such as fuelling, checking and maintaining proper oil and water levels, washing and cleaning the interiors and exteriors of buses.
  • May be required to hostle, operate or drive any equipment incidental to garage work.
  • While assisting Tradespersons, perform any duties incidental to garage work which will include, but not be limited to: assisting in the carrying out of inspections, repairs and overhauls to equipment; assisting Tradespersons to carry out minor repairs and adjustments to equipment; obtaining parts, tools and supplies
  • Servicepersons may be required to use any tools necessary in carrying out their duties but will not be required to own tools.  

Qualifications

  • Full technical high school or equivalent. Mechanical ability or aptitude desirable. Vocational courses in mechanical or electrical subjects an advantage.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered. Must hold a valid unrestricted BC Driver’s licence, with preference given to individuals who hold a Class 3 or higher, with Air Brake Endorsement and a demonstrated safe driving record.
  • Must be capable, upon completion of in house training, of holding a Class 2 licence with Air Brake Endorsement.
  • An ELTT in Commercial Transport or Heavy Duty Mechanics is preferred.

Additional information

  • Will be required to work all shifts and must be able to work outdoors.
  • Will be required to work with and around cleaning agents, lubricants and dust.
  • A current 5-year Driver’s Abstract must accompany application.
  • If you are shortlisted for an interview and do not currently hold a Class 3 or higher licence, you will be required to obtain a Class 2 learners driver’s licence prior to interview or testing.

 

UTILITY

Duties
While assisting Journeypersons, perform any duties incidental to garage work which will include, but not be limited to:  

  • Assisting in the carrying out of inspections (i.e. responsible for draining and refilling all oils, filter replacement and lubricating all necessary parts as per the bus inspection sheet);
  • Assisting Tradespersons to carry out minor repairs and adjustments to equipment;
  • Obtaining of parts, tools and supplies;
  • Acting as helpers to Tradespersons in any classification;
  • Maintaining supplies of all bulk fluids (i.e. all oils and antifreeze);
  • Replacing tireperson when necessary;
  • General garage housekeeping in the absence of the Janitor;
  • Perform change-offs and other duties assigned by the shift supervisor;
  • Maintains records of vehicle mileage, inventory and dispersal of lubricants, antifreeze and other products as required.
  • Utilitypersons may be required to use tools necessary in carrying out their duties but will not be required to own tools.
