No, BC Transit will provide in-house training and arrange for air brake endorsement testing during the initial operator training. You must however arrange to have the air brake restriction placed on your learners’ drivers’ license if you are a conventional or community operator applicant and you do not have your air brake endorsement.
This is available through ICBC at the time you obtain your Class 2 or 4 learners drivers licence. You must ask for this restriction to be placed onto the license so that you can be evaluated on our air brake equipped vehicles during the recruitment process.
As a Conventional Bus Driver you are guaranteed 37.5 hours per week. You may request additional hours if you sign up to drive for vacationing, sick, or unavailable drivers.
Community Shuttle Drivers start with less than full time hours however as you gain more seniority your signup options increase; therefore increasing your hours to up to full time. Being a Restricted Availability operator for Community Shuttle is possible however the number of hours will depend both on your seniority and amount of work available within the requested availability.
BC Transit does not require applicants to have commercial drivers license in order to apply. However, you will be asked to obtain your class 2 (Conventional Bus) or class 4 (Community Shuttle) learners license if you are not currently a holder of the class of licence required for the job.
If you are offered a position as a trainee, BC Transit is licensed to train and then arrange ICBC testing for both Conventional and Community Shuttle licencing. The air brake training course is also provided by BC Transit and we will also arrange for testing for your #15 air brake endorsement.
